If there's a God, you must see Him, 
and if there's a soul, we must perceive it. 
Otherwise, it's better not to believe. 
It's better to be an outspoken atheist than a hypocrite. 
And after all my life, I've been brought up... 
Well, they tried to bring me up as a Catholic. 
They had told you to just believe what they're telling you. 
And, you know, not to have the direct experience on this, 
for me, going to India [Beatles in India] and hearing somebody [Maharishi Mahesh Yogi] saying, 
"you know, no, you can't believe anything until you have direct perception of it." 
And I thought, "Wow, you know, fantastic. 
At last, you know, find somebody who makes some sense." 
And so I wanted to go deeper and deeper into that.
